Helen Scammell is the 911 Training Coordinator with Nova Scotia’s Department of Emergency Management. Helen worked for 11 years as a 911 Telecommunicator and Fire Dispatcher with roles in both Alberta and Nova Scotia. While she hung up the headset to move into her current Training role, Helen continues to apply her lived front-line experience to the education she delivers to new and experienced 911 Telecommunicators in Nova Scotia.
Outside of work, Helen and her RCMP Member spouse are busy hockey parents (Go Flyers Go!). After running around to various rinks, they try to relax with their German Shorthaired Pointer named Chowie, though their slightly unhinged Tuxedo Cat, Gale, usually has other plans.
Through both her professional and personal life, Helen is dedicated to strengthening and supporting the resilience of public safety personnel and their families, including her own.
