Who was CST Fabrice Gevaudan?

Constable Fabrice Gevaudan was a dedicated father, husband, and officer who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on June 4, 2014, in Moncton, New Brunswick. Known for his commitment, courage, and warm-hearted nature, CST Gevaudan was deeply respected by his colleagues and loved by his community. He brought an unwavering passion for service to his work with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). His sacrifice, along with the lives of two fellow officers, touched the nation, reminding us of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day to protect our communities. His memory continues to inspire and honour the values of courage and compassion in service.

Why was this scholarship created?

This scholarship was created to help support the families and friends of first responders and frontline workers better understand mental health and wellness. It will provide a small degree of recognition for the sacrifices CST Gevaudan, and other first responders make every day in service.

Who is this scholarship for?

This scholarship will support first responder and frontline worker organizations in creating an event or educational support program for their family, friends, and colleagues that focuses on mental wellness. A common request for many is to host a family night with good food and a customized mental wellness workshop from a Tema Foundation trainer. This scholarship can pay up to $1,000 for this event. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Scholarship funds are available for first responder/frontline worker organizations operating within Canada.
  • This scholarship is not for individual people or individual families. Please contact your nearest vital services organization and request they apply for the scholarship on behalf of the event being planned.
    • For example: the Barrie Ontario Fire Department wants to put on an educational event for their friends and family they can make an application for support for an event – OR – if the ICU staff of the QE II Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, wants to do an educational event for friends and family they can make an application for funds from the grant.
  • The choice of educational program must be for the enhancement of your employees and/or their families’ mental health and wellness.
  • This scholarship is for up to $1,000 per event in support of a mental health and wellness educational event for family, friends, support personnel and other important people in the lives of any recognized service or organization that involves first responders and/or frontline workers.
  • An organization can apply more than once for the grant as long as all rules are followed.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Completion of scholarship application,  must be received prior to outlined deadlines.
  • Waiver to allow the Tema Foundation’s use of the organization’s name and the event, photos, etc., on our website, promotional material, and all social media platforms (to be completed after being awarded the scholarship).
  • Organizations willingness to provide a short post-event review for our website and social media platforms outlining the number of attendees, location of the event, and a summary of what the event delivered.

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

  • Evaluation of the event or program based on impact on one’s mental health and wellness (discretion of the selection committee based on candidates’ description and reason for hosting such event).
  • Organization’s service to the community and or workplace. 
  • All organizations will be notified of the selection committee’s decision. Interviews may be required of scholarship finalists.
  • Reimbursement of expenses will be completed following the submission and approval of all expense receipts. Expenses need to be submitted within a two weeks after the event date. 
  • Submissions must be received no later than 12 months from the date of the award. 

Applications are accepted year round. All applicants will hear from the selection committee the final outcome of their application within 30 days of submitting their application.

Applications are reviewed by the CST Fabrice Gevaudan Family Scholarship Selection Committee, with the award being disbursed after the successful completion of the organizations event or program.
