Position Summary

The Tema Foundation is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Grant Writer to support our fundraising and sustainability efforts. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals, and managing grant reporting requirements. This role is critical to expanding the Foundation’s programs and long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify public and private grant opportunities aligned with the Foundation’s mission
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather data, outcomes, and budgets for proposals
  • Manage grant calendars, deadlines, and submission schedules
  • Track and maintain records of submitted grants, awards, and rejections
  • Prepare grant reports and ensure compliance with funder requirements
  • Assist with developing grant strategies and funding pipelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience in grant writing and securing funding for nonprofit organizations
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills
  • Ability to translate program goals and impact into compelling narratives
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with nonprofit funding sources, foundations, and government grants

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of successful grant awards
  • Experience working with the first responder or front line worker sector
  • Knowledge of grant management software or donor databases
